Johns Hill School
This engineering project was new construction for a 100,000 square-foot magnet school to support 750–800 students on the existing Johns Hill campus in Decatur, Illinois.
BLDD Architects called again in 2019 with an exciting and challenging project, right in their hometown of Decatur. The project included the construction of a 100,000 square-foot school. The difficult part of the design was coming up with a solution that would allow the existing school, located 60 feet away, to operate until the new school was completed.
Our work included the design of all new parking lots, accessible routes to and from the building, and a solution to keep existing utility services in order while the new building was under construction.
Collaboration with the architect on various design concepts went through many iterations as we dialed in on an overall plan that was satisfactory to the Decatur School District and our client.
The project was completed in August, 2021.
